Entitlements can cover member pricing and groups, login or private-area gating, and special catalog access. BigCommerce still owns the customer and payment. The app does not take a card.

B2B, wholesale, co-op, association and organization stores need clearer control over who is a member and what they may see or buy. Stock themes rarely cover that cleanly.
Approach
Membership keeps plans, statuses, organizations and private areas under server-side rules. Each status change grants or revokes entitlements and writes an audit trail. Private areas are decided by the server, not theme JavaScript.
